What We Drank Tonight… September 24, 2023 Edition

Oh, vacation…. so needed and so loved.

We’re in the Outer Banks this week with friends. It may rain, but that is what it is. A rainy day at the beach is better than a regular day at home, right? Right!!

We started day one with a lovely beginning with Walsh Twin Notch Sauvignon Blanc. We love this – its quieter than it’s Bethany Ridge cousin but just lovely. It was the welcome to vacation that I needed.

Next up was the Early Mountain 2020 Novum. This blend, primarily merlot and cab franc with a touch of petit verdot and tannat to round it out and give it punch, hits home. We got in the house around 4, and everyone was grumpy and hungry from the drive, so a cheese board with crackers and spannakopita with the sauvignon blanc worked well. This is a lighter, pleasant wine that drinks well with everything or nothing at all, and it started the week off well.

We moved on to the Novum which was bolder and had a sharper feel. With the spinach and feta in the pastry it worked out great, as that softened the tannins in the wine.

To be fair, Husband and some other guests were drinking ElderFlower tonic and vodka with a twist of lime. They don’t know what they missed.

This house is amazing. Heated pool, view of the sound, close to the ocean, plenty of space, hot tub. The hot tub was, sadly, only at 88 degrees when we got there, but it’s heating up quickly. Tomorrow it should be the perfect post-dinner relaxation.

Vacation is off to a good start. It is badly needed and I will keep reporting our progress to you. Fifteen bottles of Virginia Wine remain (and one friend brought two Jeffersons) … so there will be so much to tell….
