First full day and night at the beach were a quiet one. While hubby and others went fishing (!), I stayed at the house to work on my online class for a while and then just relax on the deck in the hammock. It’s fine to start an overcast day at the beach that way, and eventually I got to spend time outside when it was sunny.
We grilled amazing cuts of steak and had baked potatoes and sauteed zucchini for dinner. To get ready for dinner we drank the Montifalco 2022 Estate Rosé. It was the perfect dry wine to start us off before dinner with some fruit and nuts to snack on. We love the light strawberry notes and crisp taste on this one. It is so drinkable, so refreshing with dinner. I’m glad I have another bottle at home to end the summer with. This would be great with afternoon cheese and crackers, any kind of charcuterie, whatever you like, as you sit on the deck under an umbrella.
Once the steak was on the table, we were ready for the 2019 Mount Alto Manteo-Nason-Tatum. It’s been about six months since I’ve had this and oh my goodness, it brought such amazing memories back.

The depth of the purple reflects the depth of the wine. There is no wine decanter in the beach rental, sadly, so I had to try to be patient and let it get a bit of oxygen in the glass and strive to keep myself from drinking it. The wine was so wonderful and paired beautifully with the rare cut of steak.

This wine is full of dark and deep aromas and flavors. Petit Verdot leads so you have a good bit of tannin on it, softened by the gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon. I get plum from this, and some blackberry. The wine and steak beautifully complement each other, and your dinner experience is perfect. You can buy this wine direct from the Mount Alto team, and has some availability in a handful of stores per their website. But let me buy my re-stock of it first please.
In other news, this morning we took a long walk to the beach with one of the dogs, who saw the ocean for the first time, and was curious about the waves til they got too close. Then it was time to go. On the way back we got to see a Heron in the Sound.

Stay tuned for what we drink tonight!
