Our Christmas dinner started off with our family tradition – Grandma’s meatcakes. We paired this wonderful snack (a yeasty sweet dough wrapped around ham, bacon, and onion) with the amazing 2016 Avenius Sauvignon Blanc from Linden Vineyards.
All this while we get steaks, green beans, mac and cheese, and rolls ready for dinner.
Once those were done, we opened the RdV Seven Silos. WOW. Right out of the bottle, without decanting it was incredible. A powerful and rich bottle of wine. It didn’t have the characteristic peppery taste that is common for Virginia Cab Franc. It went beautifully with the cut of filet mignon, seared outside and medium rare inside. There was a lot of depth in the wine, with the darker fruit of raspberry and a lot of mineral quality to it. It was smooth, really really smooth, and a very excellent sipping wine, as well as paired excellently with Christmas Dinner.
Sadly, you cannot get this anymore – they only sold it until the 23rd. They release an “Outlier” wine every year along with their Friends and Family blend. This year it was the cab franc, and what a winner. Best thing of all, I got a response from RdV on instagram!
